Illinois State Police Merit Board is currently processing applications for Cadet Class 127

The Illinois State Police Merit Board is currently processing applications for Cadet Class 127, tentatively scheduled for February 2018. In order to be considered for Cadet Class 127, the Merit Board must receive a completed application and required documentation by July 15, 2017. Interested candidates are encouraged to review ISP’s requirements. Online applications can be found on the ISP website.

The Illinois State Police Merit Board has set the following minimum requirements for persons applying for an Illinois State Trooper position. Trooper candidates must be at least 21 years old to apply.

1) An applicant cannot have been convicted of a felony.
2) An applicant must be a citizen of the United States.
3) An applicant must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of completing the application.
4) An applicant must be willing to accept an assignment anywhere in the State.
5) An applicant must have completed the education requirements which can be found on the ISP Merit Board’s pre-employment requirements.

“In addition and pursuant to Public Act 100-0011, any person who has been honorably discharged who served in a combat mission by proof of hostile fire pay or imminent danger pay during deployment on active duty, or has served 3 years of full active and continuous military duty and received an honorable discharge, meets the collegiate educational requirement of the Illinois Department of State Police.”

Applicants who are 20 years old may apply if they have met “Option 4” of ISP’s education requirements.

Tinley Park Hiring Parking Enforcer

The Village of Tinley part is seeking applications for the position of “Community Service Officer – Parking Enforcement.” The position pays $21.96 an hour plus benefits and offers at minimum of a 35-hour work week.

Duties of the position include: monitoring “the flow of vehicles in Village controlled parking areas, issuing citations for overtime parking, illegal parking in handicap zones, fire lanes, no parking zones, parking without displaying proper permits and failure to pay parking fees.”

The position holder will be a non-sworn employee, responsible for providing general support to the Tinley Park Police Department and service to Village residents through community policing.

Alsip-Hazelgreen-Oak Lawn Dist. 126 in Alsip has just posted four new 1-year teaching positions for 2017-2018 school year, including an early childhood special education, kindergarten, second-grade and music teacher, and a substitute teacher and substitute teacher’s aide. Apply online.

Oak Lawn-Hometown Dist. 123 has an opening for a building principal at Covington Elementary School. The closing date to apply is June 6, 2017. The position starts July 1, 2017. The district also has a one-year contracted position for a kindergarten teacher at Kolmar Elementary School, and a kindergarten teacher at Sward Elementary School. Ridgeland Dist. 122 in Oak Lawn is seeking a district superintendent to oversee its four PreK-5 elementary schools and middle school. The district offers a regionally competitive salary and benefits package to be negotiated upon hiring, based on experience. The closing date to apply is Aug. 1, 2017. D122 has also posted nine open teaching positions, including elementary classroom, special education, resource, ESL, early childhood and preschool positions. Free Highway Construction Careers Training Program

South Suburban College will be offering a Free Highway Construction Careers Training Program this summer at their Oak Forest Campus. Orientation and Assessment Testing will be June 20-22 at the Oak Forest Center, with the program set to begin on July 17, 2017.

The Highway Construction Careers Training Program has been implemented to increase the number of minorities, women, and disadvantaged individuals working on IDOT highway construction projects. The training consists of an intensive 12-week program to learn the skills necessary for acceptance into the highway construction trades and gives the opportunity for a career with high wage potential.

Career Opportunities Include: Cement Mason, Electrician, Pipefitter, Carpenter, Laborer, Equipment Operator

Requirements: Valid driver’s license, 18 years or older, High School diploma/GED, Interest working in the Construction Trades

Construction will always be needed for new buildings, roads, bridges, and other structures. Some of the more skilled construction careers such as engineer require higher education while others such as cement masonry can be learned as an on-the-job apprentice.
